How to Manage Loose Skin When Losing Weight

To avoid the loose skin when losing weight it’s critical that you have a plan on how you are going to lose the weight.  Your plan should be balanced in diet and workouts so you lose 1-2 pounds a week.  A slow and paced reduction will prevent the loose skin when losing weight.

Understand that your skin is a flexible organ.  It can stretch and contract to form with the shape and size of your body.  You skin can shrink and tighten over time.  It depends on your diet, the amount of weight you’ve lost, and how long your skin was stretched.

Real World Tips on How to Control Loose Skin When Losing Weight

Get In And Remain In This State

Get hydrated and stay hydrated.  I know you’ve heard it all too many times, but it’s true.  Staying well-hydrated throughout the day, every day, will help you manage loose skin when losing weight.

Please understand that, just as weight loss is a process, so too is hydration and managing your skin.  It’s not a magic act.  Drinking a lot of water keeps your skin hydrated, making it more pliable so it can better form and fit your body as you go through your weight-loss journey.

Include More of This

You are going to have to adopt an eating plan of foods with a high-nutritional density.  Real food, that which comes from Mother Nature, is meant to nourish the body, not make it fat.  Real and natural food are loaded with micronutrients your body needs.

Sulfur is one of most abundant minerals in the body and is needed for proper synthesis of protein.  It’s derived mostly from dietary protein, so it’s critical to include complete proteins in your diet.  A complete protein contains all the sulfur-containing amino acids needed to manufacture new protein and help build collagen, the protein in your skin that gives it structure.

Build More of This

Muscle is metabolically active.  Building more muscle by weight training will allow you to burn more calories overall.  The added muscle mass will help give you shape to help manage loose skin when losing weight.

Most Importantly…

Take your time and be patient.  You didn’t gain the amount of weight you want to lose overnight, so it is going to be a process.  This slow-paced approach works best because it allows your skin to adjust to your new smaller size.

The reality is that your skin is going to need a longer amount of time to shrink.  Typically, your skin will be about three months behind your weight loss.  This is where your trust and patience needs to kick in.  Stay on your clean eating plan and keep working out.  Trust the process.

Keep in mind that it can take up to two years for your skin to fit your new body.
