Congrats Kelly on your accomplishments and placements. What competitions have you recently competed in and how did you place each?
I competed on June 28th in the Battle of the Bay and placed 2nd in Figure Novice and then turned around and competed on July 12th in the Natural Muscle Mayhem and scored a 1st Place Figure Novice.

I loved it and I seriously can’t wait till next year!
Sounds like you got some major competitions planned for next season. What got you involved in figure competitions?
Someone at the gym asked if I had ever considered doing a show, so I looked into it and decided to try it. Kind of a bucket list thing, but ended up falling in love with it 🙂
Many figure competitors get involved in the sport that way. What was your competition weight and how tall are you?
I’m 5’6” and my competition weight was 117.
Excellent ratio. That puts you about 7-9% body fat on stage. How long did it take you to prep for your show?
It took me just 12 weeks.
Great prep time. You don’t want to over-prep and lose muscle. How long have you been into fitness and working out?
I’ve been working out a couple years now.
Have you always been athletic? Did you play sports growing up?
I played soccer when I was young, but I’ve always ridden dirt bikes and that has kept me in pretty good shape.
So it seems. What motivates you to keep in shape?
I am finally happy with the way I look and also to mitigate my two young girls to grow up living a healthy active life
Oh, excellent motivation tactics. How do you stick to your goals?
I have a lot of support from my family.
That’s great. Family support is ALWAYS helpful. What is your figure competition diet like?
I ate a lot of chicken, sweet potatoes and veggies.
While many coaches shy away from that “boring” tactic, it’s really what works in transforming your body and getting on stage. What is a basic cheat meal for you?
I eat maybe a little extra meat and sweet potato.
So you don’t cheat on your diet much. Great work, helps to keep your body fat under control. What was your figure prep training like?
My contest prep training was not much different than my regular training, I’ve always trained hard.
So your constant heavy training allowed you to keep a lot of your muscle. What’s your best body part?
You have great shoulders. What body part do you like to train the most?
I like training legs and abs the most.
I can tell you put a lot of focus into your leg training. They have a nice shape. What are your favorite forms of cardio?
I like the stepmill.
Ah, the stepmill is excellent for the legs and glutes. How did you balance your prep with your life and living in the real world?
Very carefully lol!
I totally agree! Are there any sacrifices? If so, how do you overcome them?
Yes, I don’t go out with friends as often cause I don’t want to cheat…my house is my safe place.
I would go out, but I would just suck-it-up and eat tuna and broccoli when it was time. Not fun, but in the end, it paid off. What do you find to be the hardest part about getting into contest shape and how do you overcome it?
The hardest part about getting into contest shape was losing body fat, and the amount of cardio I had to do. I’m not a huge fan of 45-60 min cardio sessions lol!
I TOTALLY agree with the cardio. I’m not a cardio queen either. LOL Do you have any future competition plans?
Yes!!! I am looking into doing a competition in April in Washington State and the same shows again next year in June and July.
Good luck in those. Do you use supplements? If so, what are your favorite supplements?
My favorite is MusclePharm Amino 1 amino acids.
Ah yes, Amino Acids are the muscles candy. Does your family support your fitness endeavors?
Absolutely!!! couldn’t do it without them!
That’s great. So, what hobbies do you have outside of fitness?
What advice would you give someone who wanted to get in the same shape you are in?
Just remember it doesn’t happen overnight! “Don’t compare your chapter 1 to someone’s chapter 20!” not sure who that quotes by but I love it!
LOL That’s a good quote. How has competing in figure changed your life?
It has completely brought me out of my comfort zone! I have always been the girl who wears shorts over my swimsuit lol! it has made me look at life in a whole new perspective and makes me want to try other things out of my norm!
Awesome. Fitness and competing can totally change your life. Do you have any long-term goals in the fitness industry?
I am working on getting certified to be a personal trainer and I don’t have any plans on quitting my training anytime soon 🙂
