Karen:
What was your heaviest weight?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: My heaviest weight was 204 pounds.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
You've done an outstanding job dropping the pounds. What do you currently weigh?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: I'm currently 163 pounds.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
Wow, that's a 41 pound loss. What was your weight loss strategy?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: I ate 5-6 small meals a day - proper nutrition. I also read several of your e-books, trained with weights 4-5 days a week and did cardio. Also, I quit taking anti-depressants!

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
You put in all the necessary work to lose weight and keep it off. Were there any sacrifices? If so, how did you overcome them?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: Yes! I had to sacrifice beer. I loved my beer! I Had to give it up for the most part! Once in a while I still indulge.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
LOL I guess in order to get what we really want, we have to make certain sacrifices that we think we can't live without. However, a little indulgence at times never hurt anyone. ;) What got you started in fitness?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: When I was 13 I was overweight. I started doing aerobics with a Jane Fonda tape and got hooked.

In 1998 I entered the first Body for Life Contest, then (EAS Spokesperson Championship). This is when I fell in love with weight training and became certified through American Council on Exercise for Personal Training.

Shortly after that, I began a family and had my first child, soon came my second along with Post Pardon depression. The Doctors prescribed an anti depressant and the weight slowly started to creep on.

When my daughter was two, my husband and I thought it would help my depression by opening a small aerobic studio. Wow! What were we thinking??? Talk about stress! Not only did I have two small children at home, I had to deal with the stress of owning a business-rent, employee’s, taxes, complaining customers, etc. I was so busy teaching classes, dealing with employee problems and trying to figure out how to get more business that I completely neglected myself.

The more depressed I got the more I ate and drank and smoked! Some Personal Trainer! I felt like the biggest hypocrite on earth!

Then one night I received a phone call, my mom had passed away in the night due to complications of Bariatric Surgery (surgery for obesity). I had thought I had hit an all time low.

It gets better……4 months after my mom died, I fell down a flight of stairs and injured my back. The diagnosis was a herniated disc. I was depressed, in a lot of pain and drinking every day. My husband informed me that the numbers for the business were not good and we had to close our doors or we would be financially ruined. This put me further into depression.

Then one day In October of last year, It finally dawned on me that I was headed in the same direction as my parents. My mother struggled with obesity her whole life and my dad dealt with his problems by drinking. I did not want my mom’s death to be in vain and I did not want to repeat those patterns-especially in front of my children!

Slowly I began to give up all those bad habits and in November I stumbled across your (Karen Sessions) web site. I purchased one of your eBooks and my life has truly changed.

Karen:
Wow, what an amazing story! You've been through a LOT. How long have you been involved in fitness?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: I have been involved in fitness for 26 years.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
Twenty-six years is a long time. Congrats on your dedication. What motivates you to eat right?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: Looking back at how far I have come and looking forward to how far I will go keeps me motivated!

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
You got that right. When you are moving in the right direction, the only way you can go is forward. . What motivates you to keep working out?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: My family, my goals, my dreams keep me on the working out path.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
I hear ya. You always have to be striving to be better. How do you set goals?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: I set daily, weekly, and yearly goals.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
If you can keep and make those short-term goals stick, the long-term goals are like child's play. . How do you stick to your goals?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: I document my goals, read them often, and visualize them coming to pass.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
That creative visualization really works. It's a technique I've used a lot in my bodybuilding contest preparation. What do you find to be the hardest part about keeping in shape and how do you overcome it?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: The hardest part about keeping in shape is my often negative attitude-I battle with myself constantly.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
You sound like you win the battles. That constant struggle keeps you active and winning. What kind of eating program works best for your body type and activity level?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: Eating 5-6 meals a day-protein mixed with complex carbs, but -very little simple carbs. Oh yeah, one day a week I rest! This includes-dieting.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
Heck yeah... after a full weeks work of eating good and training yo need a little break for the body and mind. What forms of cardio do you enjoy?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: I like walking on my treadmill at an incline, step aerobics, and interval training.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
If you like cardio, then that's all that needs to be said. Great work! How long do you do cardio?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: I do cardio 20-40 minutes 3 days a week.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
You are pretty active with that cardio. It works hand-in-hand with your weight training and overall weight loss. What is your training split like?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: Lately, I have been using a wonderful work out prescribed by Karen!

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
Well that's awesome! Glad my training program is working great for you. Do you track your personal best lifts and if so, what are they?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer:
No, I just try to increase the weight every week and I document it. I could not tell you what the weight is unless I look it up in my lifting journal.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
I vary between tracking my lifts and just training blind. Both work for me. When I'm in a muscle and strength building phase I tend to log my training lifts. What’s a basic cheat meal for you?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: Anything I want! My weight loss has been nice and slow this past year and it may be due to the fact that I do enjoy eating whatever I want one day a week!

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
"Anything I want" is the best answer yet! I do the same thing. It's your day, enjoy it. Do you compete or do you have plans on competing?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: Yes! One year from this August is my goal. I have a lot of work to do and I know it. I will be 40!

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
Those short-term goals should coast you right to your beginning contest prep date. Congrats on the competition goal, and good luck! Does your family support your fitness endeavors?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: Absolutely!

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
Awesome. Many women have to fly solo with fitness and or competitions. It's great that your family is so supportive! What are your favorite supplements?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: I supplement with glutamine and creatine.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
Those are my top favorite supplements. I've been taking creatine since 1996. What is your next fitness goal?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: I want o reach my pre-pregnancy weight.

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen:
With the way you are going, you should reach it in no time with no problem. Do you have any hobbies outside of fitness?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: School (at my age it is a hobby).

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen: LOL I understand. I couldn't stand school when I was in it, now I love to study, research, and learn. I think it's all in "what" you are schooling. With your weight loss success, how has it changed your life?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: The weight loss has changed my life in so many ways... I'm a better wife and mother, I'm more confident in my field, the list goes on and on………..

No more depression
No more back pain
No more self pity
No more excuses!

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen: That's terrific to hear! You sound like you have reclaimed your youth. You sound 20 years old. What advice would you give someone who wanted to get in such outstanding shape as you are in?
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

Jennifer: I am not quite in outstanding shape yet but I am working on it! My advice is to take one day at a time!

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Karen: Great advice, Jennifer. Taking one day at a time is about all that you can really do... eventually those days add up to weeks, then months, then years... and before you know it weight is not a factor anymore.

Great work! Keep it up!
